SURAT, SEPT 7: In a sensational daylight murder in the Limbayat area of thecity on Tuesday, two unidentified persons shot dead a man and injuredanother seriously before escaping.

Panic spread on the Pratapnagar main road area as people filling water atthe taps nearby and passers-by rushed for safety on hearing the gun shots.

According to the Limbayat police, who are investigating the case,personal rivalry could be the reason behind the incident.

According to a complaint lodged in the police station, and versions ofresidents of Pratapnagar slum in Limbayat area, two youths aged between 20and 22, shot twice at one Saamla Vyankanna 35 8212; with a country revolver8211; while he was standing at a paan shop in the area at around 8 am onTuesday and escaped.

While one bullet hit Vyankanna8217;s left temple, another hit him in the abdomenand after passing through his body, hit a by-stander Kumar Swamy Allaiya35, on the hand and then in the stomach.

Vyankanna died on the spot, while Allaiya was rushed to the New CivilHospital where doctors removed a bullet stuck in his abdomen.

His condition is reported to be serious.

According to a complaint lodged by Somaiyya Saplu Ponga Padmashali, theowner of the paan shop, the deceased was discussing his rivalry with onePrabhakar 8212; also residing in the same area when the assailants fired athim.

Vyankanna, Ponga said, had a fight with Prabhakar a few days ago and that hewanted the issue to be sorted out by the Samaj Panchayat. Residents of thearea claimed that both Vyankanna and Prabhakar, were bootleggers and thusrivals.

The police suspect that Prabahakar might have given supari to the twoassailants to get rid of Vyankanna, while Allaiya had nothing to do with theincident.

The police complaint stated that the assailants had walked down to thearea from Gaurinagar, while local residents claimed that the two had come inan autorickshaw and escaped in the same vehicle. The police who later rushedto the spot fond Vyankanna dead and Allaiya bleeding profusely from thestomach and hand.
