
PUNE, Nov 23: Three unidentified youths, armed with a sickle and knives, attacked and robbed Sanjay Dasharath Raut, a 33-year-old sales manager working with a Bhosari-based private company, at Chinchwad early this morning. Raut, who hails from Solapur, was returning after meeting his wife who had given birth to a son some days ago. The box of pedhas which he had brought for distributing was also snatched by the youths.
Raut, who got a job in Pune recently, stays in a hostel in Chinchwad. Raut was walking near the Chinchwad branch of State Bank of India when three unidentified youths wielding knives and a sickle intercepted him, around 6.30 a.m. They thrashed him up and relieved him of his wallet containing Rs 1,500 in cash and his suitcase, Nigdi police said.
Later, Raut went to the nearby Chinchwad police chowkey and lodged a First Information Report FIR. The FIR said the robbers were in the age group of 20 to 25 years. They were wearing black trousers and white shirts. Pedestrian Killed: Vitthal Pandurang Kurade, a 65-year-old man residing at Kasarwadi, was killed on the spot when a truck ran over him on the Pune-Mumbai highway on Sunday afternoon. Kurade was crossing the highway near a petrol pump at Kasarwadi when he was knocked down. He came under the wheels of the truck and died instantaneously, police said. Bhosari police have filed a case against the truck driver Abbas Samad Mohammed Maula Shaikh from Bidar in Karnataka.
