Man held for threatening trader

The Delhi Police8217;s Special Cell arrested an extortionist on Saturday evening for allegedly threatening a Delhi-based businessman and relative of a RJD leader.

The Delhi Police8217;s Special Cell arrested an extortionist on Saturday evening for allegedly threatening a Delhi-based businessman and relative of a RJD leader.

Police sources said the accused, identified as Raju Engineer, was arrested after the police received a tip-off that he has coming to Delhi to threaten and kill a businessman, who had refused to pay ransom. An associate of Raju has also been arrested, though his identity has not been revealed yet.

The sources said Raju had been threatening the businessman for the last few months. The businessman, reportedly, has the contract of a cellular company for the whole of Bihar. 8220;The businessman8217;s identity can8217;t be revealed at this time. He had been receiving calls from Raju from Bihar and had filed a complaint with the police,8221; a senior officer said.

The sources said that around May-end, Raju had made a ransom call asking for Rs 50 lakh and had recently demanded Rs one crore.

As the businessman refused to pay up, Raju allegedly hatched a plan to threaten and kill him in the Capital.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Special Cell Alok Kumar said: 8220;Raju Engineer was arrested on Saturday night near South District and we are looking to take him in remand.8221; Kumar said they were in constant touch with the Bihar police to find out about Raju8217;s involvement in other cases.

Sources said Raju was sent to judicial custody on Sunday and will be produced before the court on Monday for further police remand. A case has also been registered against him.
