SURAT, May 27: A man, who was allegedly harassing a woman over the telephone for the past few weeks, was arrested by the Katargam police on Wednesday.

One Sadashiv Ramesh Pujari, manager of a hotel at Kapodara, was arrested late on Wednesday evening for harassing a woman residing in the Katargam area of the city. The complainant, requesting anonymity, had told the police that a person had been calling her up daily and, while making indecent comments, was demanding sexual favours from her.

Based on the complaint to DCP N K K Oza, Katargam PSI R M Patel and others were directed to lay a trap for the accused.

Accordingly, when the accused called the complainant again on Wednesday, she asked him to meet her near Hotel Amisha in the area. Since neither of the two had seen each other earlier, it was decided that she would wear a white dress while Pujari would arrive in a pink shirt, the police said.

Plain-clothed policemen pounced upon Pujari, the moment he arrived at the decided spot and made gestures at the woman. Although the police have not sought a remand for the accused, he is reported to have confessed to the investigating officials that his elder brother and the complainant8217;s family were neighbours a few years ago.
