PATIALA, June 2: Maharashtra, West Bengal and Kerala girls outclassed their rival teams in the opening league encounters of the 49th Junior National Basketball Championship at the Polo Ground Indoor Sports Stadium complex here today.

Maharashtra beat Bihar 70-22. The Maharashtra girls attacked from the word go. Anita Krishan, Khushbhoo Sancheti, Mithila Gujar and Sapna Tunge combined for the winners to beat the Bihar girls in every department of the game.

Maharashtra were leading 36-6 at the half-time. They maintained their domination in the second as well. Anita Krishan with 12 points, Khusbhoo Sancheti with 10, Mithila Gujar with nine, Sapna Tunge with eight and Renuka Aggarwal with seven points bolstered the winner8217;s tally.

In the second match West Bengal beat Rajasthan 49-9. The winners seemed to be walking away with the game at the half time itself when they were leading 16-0. Though Rajasthan girls were able to put some points on the scoreboard, yet they could not trouble the West Bengal girls.

The third match of the day saw Kerala beat Himachal Pradesh 67-14. The half time score was 43-3 in Kerala8217;s favour. Kerala spikers were the most impressive ones on view today with their height advantage.
