New Delhi, June 24: A scheme for allotment of 500 direct dealerships of petroleum products, including LPG, for widows and dependents of the defence personnel deployed in Kargil was announced by Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister V K Ramamurthy here today.

In a letter to Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee, Ramamurthy said it had been decided to earmark five hundred such dealersips and distributorships of petrol products for defence personnel killed in acton outside normal selection procedure through advertisements.

The allotment would be made on the recommendation of the Ministry of Defence by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. The concessions which were available now to the widows and unmarried women under the existing scheme for general category above 40 years of age and without earning parents would also be made available to the widows and dependents under the new scheme for the heroes of the Kargil conflict, he added.

The sites allotted under the scheme would be developed by the concerned oil companies and handed over to the allottees. Dealership and distibutorships under the new scheme would be given for the locations already earmarked and announced. In case such a location was not available in the marketing plan in the district of residence of the allottee and falls under any other category, it will be converted into defence category for the benefit of the widows and dependents of the defence personnel killed in action in kargil, Ramamurthy said.

Meanwhile, Ramamurthy, Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Santosh Kumar Gangwar, several petroleum companies, refineries, their employees and the all India LPG distributors8217; federation have contributed Rs 80 crore and Rs 32 lakh to the National Defence Fund.

The contributors included Indian Oil Corporation Ltd, Bharat Oil Corporation, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation, Oil and Natural Gas Coporation, Oil India Limited, Gas Authority of India, Engineers India, Madras and Cochin Refineries and the Ministry of Petroleum natural gas.
