Lovers8217; quarrel takes ugly turn

The accused then attempted suicide by stabbing himself. He is undergoing treatment at Civil Hospital in the city.

Both Dineshbhai and Sonalben are from Navi Kili village in Halvad taluka of Surendranagar district. Police and Sonalben, along with her husband, a one-year-old child, father-in-law and brother-in-law had come to the city about a month back and were staying in Odhav.

Police said Dineshbhai came to meet Sonalben when she was alone and the two had an argument over the money, following which he stabbed her in the chest, stomach and hand, killing her.

Police investigations have revealed that the accused then doused himself as well as Sonalben8217;s body with kerosene. However, unable to find a matchbox, he stabbed himself. He inflicted injuries on his throat and stomach with the knife, police said.

Neighbours broken into the house on smelling kerosene and found the two lying in a pool of blood. Dinesh was taken to the hospital by police. According to the post-mortem report, Sonalben received six to seven wounds. 8220;He was carrying the knife with him8221;, Odhav senior police inspector N H Joshi said.

The accused confessed to the crime at Civil Hospital, before he was operated upon, and said he had brought the knife at Ambaji.

Sonalben8217;s husband Rameshbhai Ambalal Patel, a diamond cutter, has lodged a complaint against Dineshbhai at Odhav police station.

The accused is a resident of Bhumika Park Society in Khodiarnagar area of Odhav.
