Modi mind, method
8226; This refers to your editorial 8216;Ghosts don8217;t die8217;. It won8217;t make any difference to the ground realities in Indian politics. Gujarat was only a laboratory of the Sangh Parivar to test its tactics. Sad to say, it was successful. The BJP won the elections despite the genocide. And Modi might yet win another election. Why? The memories of Auschwitz did not make the Germans overthrow Hitler; he had to be destroyed by outside forces in a world war. This was because the majority of Germans were not concerned about what Hitler did to the minority Jews and didn8217;t dare to speak. They gave the benefit of doubt to Hitler when he promised to make Germany the strongest nation in the world. Modi is doing the same thing. He talks of Gujarat8217;s pride and of making the state a model for India. And the majority of voters might be convinced of his ability. Here the Hindutva propaganda comes in handy for his development trap: 8220;The Muslims are an obstacle in India8217;s progress to being a big power; see the periodical bomb blasts, how they are ungrateful in Kashmir, how the pseudo-secular parties try to appease them through Sachar Commission; and how the Islamic states treat the Hindus!8221; The Hindu voter, even if he is a moderate, could now vote for the BJP. Hindus are an overwhelming majority in India. The Vajpayee government, as the BJP itself confessed, was restricted by coalition compulsions. If it had no such compulsions, India could have been 8216;developed8217; as it did in Gujarat.

Other ghosts tell too
8226; The edit, 8216;Ghosts don8217;t lie8217; is in nation8217;s interest, with the message to the Congress not to go on shouting about riots continuously and igniting communal passions.
Congressmen, who have no achievements to their credit are gloating over the Tahelka sting operation about the Gujarat riots of 2002. The edit rightly reminds them of the 1984 carnage of Sikhs in which many Congressmen were involved. No impartial intellectual will forget the words of Rajiv Gandhi: 8220;When a big tree falls, the whole earth trembles.8221; If before his conviction by a court, Modi can be called a murderer, simply because he was the chief minister of Gujarat in 2002, what should one describe Rajiv Gandhi as, who was the prime minister of India in 1984? Whereas Narendra Modi had called in the military immediately to control the riots, Rajiv Gandhi did not call in the military for three full days until 3000 Sikhs were burnt alive in the pogrom. Rajiv Gandhi rewarded Congressmen, Jagdish Tytler, Sajjan Kumar, H.K.L. Bhagat et al, convicted by the Nanavati Commission, by appointing them as ministers in his cabinet.

Kalank and follow-up
8226; The sting operation conducted by Tehelka was truly splendid and a gift to the nation. But did we really require a sting operation to expose Modi and his goons even after knowing this truth for the last five years without having an iota of doubt? On the other hand it8217;s really shameful for India that even after that gory state-sponsored genocide of Muslims, Modi and his men are still roaming free and trying their best to interfere in the judicial inquiries into the riots. The Supreme Court should take cognisance of the revelations made by the Operation Kalank and bring the perpetrators of the Gujarat carnage to justice immediately. The chief conspirators should be given the death sentence irrespective of the fact that they may be big names in politics.
