Letter of the Week
8226; Please allow me to contradict the 8216;historical evidence8217; cited in the letter 8216;Left patriots8217;, which won the 8216;Letter of the Week8217; award IE, August 30. History demonstrates that communism was never about waging a freedom struggle but about creating a parsimonious society where achievers are exploited by the non-achievers, in keeping with the maxim 8216;From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs8217;. Can the politburo of this proletarian society, or the writer of the letter, give one plausible excuse why communists did not support the Quit India Movement? 8230; Their stand on the November 1962 Chinese aggression and their insinuation that India could well have been the aggressor is not only preposterous but anti-national. If the RSS did not participate in the freedom struggle, as the writer defensively points out, neither did they side with the British like these comrades. Your admiration for this letter is, to say the least, bewildering.
Faith fine, but8230;
8226; I PARTLY agree with Saubhik Chakrabarti when he says that 8220;Indian secularism isn8217;t built to question faith8221; 8216;God and us8217;, September 14. But in India, many religious perversions are condoned by citing secularism. Tomorrow if a person claims his god was born 5000 years ago at a place where a building stands, and he wants it razed to build a place of worship, should the state allow that? I believe a line has to be drawn somewhere. Unfortunately we Indians don8217;t appreciate rationality.

God in their yard
8226; THE ASI affidavit filed in the Supreme Court on the Sethu Samudrama Shipping Canal Project, questioning the very existence of Ram is highly condemnable. It clearly indicates that the bureaucracy in our country will bend over backwards to accommodate itself to those who rule at the Centre. If Ram did not exist it also means that Krishna did not exist and the Bhagavad Gita is only a fictional text.

Ignorance exists
8226; I RESPECTFULLY disagree with your newspaper when you claim that only issues like bijli, sadak, paani qualify as real issues. Maslow8217;s theory of motivation proves that self-esteem is an important trigger for human motivation. People like me are not only concerned with economic issues 8212; cultural issues concern us equally. The ASI was absolutely wrong to maintain Ram never existed. All we can say objectively at this point is that there is no scientific evidence to prove that Ram never existed.

Ram as saviour
8226; The BJP is at it again. The matter is simple. The party has no national and international issues to discuss, so it grabs this one. It is the same party which for the sake of power ditched Ram and enjoyed power for six years. It showed that if its love for Ram is great, its love for the chair is greater. If it has any proof for the historical authenticity of Ram, it should submit it to the court directly. Only Ram can save this party!
