Salman verdict
8226; I fully support the judgment of Justice B.K. Jain of the Jodhpur court that sentenced Salman Khan to five years of rigorous imprisonment for the gruesome act of shooting rare, endangered and protected chinkaras and black bucks in 1998. I hope it sends out a clear message that any harm done to the environment and wildlife will never be tolerated and shall be dealt with an iron hand.

8226; The five year RI sentence handed over to Salman Khan is unnecessarily harsh and does not befit his profession, stature in society as well as the crime committed by him. It will put many film producers and financiers into a lot of trouble, stalling their projects and causing losses for no fault of theirs. Instead, a very steep monetary penalty should have been imposed on him and this money could have been used for the betterment of Jodhpur jail.

Fast track justice
8226; The verdict of the Alwar rape case is indeed a landmark one 8216;In 3 weeks, the rape verdict: 7 yrs jail8217; IE, April 12, not only because of the speedy delivery of justice but also because the verdict was passed taking into consideration the fact that a crime as abhorrent as rape could not be passed off as consensual sex merely because there was an intimate friendship. These fast track courts with their high conviction rates can act not only as a deterrent in rape cases but also as a blessing to thousands of rape victims awaiting justice.

Morale of the immoral
8226; The Bombay high court on Wednesday struck down the Maharashtra government ordinance banning dance bars in the state, terming the ban unconstitutional. The fact is that such bars are merely a symbol of indecency, and undermine the dignity of women. Instead of commending the Maharashtra government, the court came out with a verdict that has boosted the morale of those who are busy corrupting society.

Quotas, again
8226; Reservations are making headlines again in our media. Thanks to V.P. Singh, millions of Indians have been denied access to higher education. It is he who strengthened a system which the Indian Constitution has pledged to eradicate. It is he who ensured that people continued to be discriminated against on the basis of their caste. And now this government, for its own political reasons, has seen fit to revive the centuries-old tradition of divide and rule. Now I am not against reservations. Of course, there have to be reservations. But please let us limit them to primary and secondary education.

8226; I am overwhelmed by the deep concern shown by the Congress and other parties for the SC/STs and OBCs. The reservations of seats in educational institutes is just a symbolic gesture. My suggestion is that all parties should come together and reserve the post of the PM exclusively for candidates from SC/ST and OBC communities for the next 50 years. After all, for the previous 50 years, only upper caste people have held this post.
