At the last meeting of the UPA-Left committee to iron out the perceived wrinkles in the Indo-US nuclear deal, the Centre informed the Communists that it was willing to hold a special session of Parliament to discuss the matter. The Government, however, added that it was up to the Left to ensure the BJP participated in the debate. Given that the saffron party did not allow any discussion on the issue in the last session of Parliament, a circumspect Left kept quiet. When the hubbub about the deal started, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha LK Advani had called up CPI(M) General Secretary Prakash Karat with the idea of joining forces. Is it time for Comrade Karat to return the call?
