8226; Surely Mani Shankar Aiyar can show his loyalty to the dynasty without being so virulently hateful of the present prime minister of his and of our country 8216;Is Vajpayee another Nehru?8217;, IE, March 16. In democracy the power to choose is with the people who decide what is best for them. Nehru indeed had been a great Indian. The nation has shown its gratitude by electing successive Congress governments for almost half a century. But then, the sacrifices of thousands of others who laid down their lives or were incarcerated for fighting for the freedom of our country were equally great. Were the contributions by Tilak, Bose, Savarkar, Bhagat Singh, Lajpat Rai to the freedom struggle in any way inferior? Vajpayee is a stalwart in his own way and there is no use comparing him with Nehru.

8212; Raghubir Singh Pune

8226; Aiyar8217;s article on Vajpayee being compared to Nehru was good. It was an eyeopener. Generally the 8220;Shining8221; campaign is so brutal that it has blinded many. Historical facts are presented in a fantastical way.

DD in the dock

8226; Doordarshan is to blame for the whole episode 8216;Bat for DD, Ten Sports told again8217;, IE, March 16. What were its officials doing all these days about securing the telecast rights for the India-Pakistan cricket series?

Same choices

8226; This refers to 8216;Battle of the ballot8217; IE, March 13. The story about the ambidexterity of Capt Walsh is indeed interesting. But the writer seems to repose misplaced faith in the Indian voter8217;s ability to discern judiciously8212; believing that on the crucial polling day, he will press the button he knows he should. What if the choice offered to him is limited by the fact that all buttons have Capt Walsh embossed over them!

Let8217;s celebrate

8226; It would be wrong to associate celebrations of victory with patriotism in the cricket matches now being played between India and Pakistan. There are only two causes for celebration.
One, the victory of hope over hatred in that the match is being played with good humour. Two, the talent that is on display on both sides. If a match degenerates into a display of jingoism, that would be most unfortunate. It would be best if neither side wins the series and honours are shared.

To what end?

8226; I am personally offended that Thomas Friedman is allowed to display a complete lack of discretion when he writes about Infosys and a global terrorist organisation in the same article 8216;Infosys poses challenge to America8217;, IE, March 15.

8226; This is an article in bad taste, it draws parallels between terrorism and the success of the Indian IT industry.
