
PUNE, Sept 5: Chief of Army Staff Gen Ved Prakash Malik today called upon private institutions to inculcate the same spirit that has guided the armed forces all these years.
Delivering the convocation address of the Symbiosis Institute of Management Studies SIMS at the National Chemical Laboratory NCL here today, Gen Malik pointed out that the army had always given importance to the man behind the gun and added that leadership and management were usually intertwined. 8220;I wonder why the industry has neglected leadershiptraits, which in the army are sacrosanct,8221; he said.
According to him, the man in uniform was usually guided by the virtues of self-respect, self-esteem and izzat of an organisation. 8220;For our officers, the safety, honour and welfare of the country come first and his own ease, comfort and safety come last,8221; he pointed out. The Army chief wondered what made people working in private organisations switch loyalties for some more money. Malik also called upon the students to develop a high level of professionalism and knowledge and imbibe Indian values.
Later the Army chief handed over diploma certificates to the students who had passed out. Special awards were given by the Army chief8217;s wife. Founder director of Symbiosis Dr S B Mujumdar delivered the welcome address. Prof Ranjeet S Mudholkar, director, SIMS said that the institute would soon introduce an e-correspondence course.
