CHANDIGARH, Feb 24: The last date for submitting forms for revision of pension by ex-servicemen has been extended by a month, while certain concessions have been announced in the IAF8217;s medical insurance scheme.

Revised pension forms as per scales implemented under the Fifth Pay Commission can now be submitted till March 31. Earlier, the last date was February 28.

For pre-1996 family pensioners, orders are under issue for fixing pension at 50 per cent of the minimum of the existing scale admissible for the rank, which would settle the long standing demand of one rank one pension As a policy decision, the period of retention of government accommodation by families of service personnel killed in action has been raised from three months to one year, which may be extended to three years on grounds of children8217;s education.

Some concessions in the IAF8217;s Medical Insurance Scheme-97, which provides medical cover for four diseases including renal, heart, hip/knee replacement and cancer, have also been implemented.

A letter received here recently from the Air Force Group Insurance Society, Delhi states that personnel or their spouse suffering from any one of the four diseases can now avail insurance cover against the other three diseases. As per earlier guidelines such persons could not avail of any benefits under the MIS-97.

The MIS-97 has no upper limit for insurance cover. Earlier, the insurance cover was limited to Rs.1 lakh each for the policy member and his spouse, which was considered inadequate for the above mentioned medical disorders.

However, there are separate rates of premium from Rs 5,000 per Rs.1 lakh of cover for those aged 50 years or below to Rs 17,701 for those aged 70 years or above.
