MUMBAI, July 15: Lanuchuba's solitary strike in the 25th minute was good enough to bring Central Railway full points against Union Bank of India (UBI) in a Gulf Lubricant WIFA Super Division football league match at the Cooperage today.Central Railway have 10 points from six games while UBI have only six point from same number of matches. Air-India lead the table with 14 points from five matches.Making his Super Division debut, Lanuchuba, a student from Pune, acted in a flash on fellow striker Arshad Ansari's forward pass. The onrushing striker used the out-step to shoot past a helpless Nadeem Ansari in goal from 10 yards.Arshad and Lanuchuba combined in telling fashion, playing the one-two often to cause headaches for the bank defence. The match started at a fast pace with both sides attempting to gain an early lead. UBI enjoyed the edge in the first quarter as the Central citadel withstood considerable pressure.UBI striker Francis Pereira had a opportunity in the 14th minute after being putthrough with a long ball from Mario Susai that caught the Railway defence napping. Pereira held on to the ball, blowing the chance in the process. Although fellow striker Ryan D'Souza covered a good 30 yards, Pereira's filibustering allowed Central deep defender Anton Fernandes, to intercept and effect a clearance. After Central scored, coach Irenio Vaz withdraw schemer Arif Ansari - injured with a twisted ankle. His replacement Chirag Shaikh took on the role of schemer.UBI stepped up their attacks in the second-half. Their mid-fielders Susai, Micheal D'Silva, Vijay Kunder and Dhirendra Singh combined well to punch holes in the Central defence and it forced the Inter-Railway champions back. Striker Pereira was guilty of wasting more than four scoring chances which came his way.The mid-fielders enjoyed support from his defenders comprising Ronald Pereira, Anil Tomar, Suresh Mendon and Vijay Thapa. For Central Railway's Arshad Ansari and Raghu Khanolkar will be out for their next encounter withIncome-Tax as both were booked today. Another Central player - medio Arif Ansari was yellow-carded - while curiously, the UBI players managed to keep clear of referee J Ravishankar's cautions despite the frantic nature of the match on slippery underfoot conditions.UBI increased pressure on Railway's goal in the dying minutes and made at least four goal-threatening moves. On one occasion, mid-fielder Dhirendra sent a curling cross from right flank. Ryan was slow to react and missed a good opportunity to equalise. While the Central Railway played to full strength, they failed to pierce the tightly-knit defence of the bankmen.Striker Asif Jamal, after recovering from an injury, played the entire match but failed to live upto his reputation.Stout defensive play by Anil Tomar, deep in the UBI defence, contained the effervescence of the Arshad-Lanuchuba combine in the second half.
