NEW DELHI, March 8: Landlords fighting a protracted battle for the implementation of the Delhi Rent Act have strongly objected to the Union Urban Affairs Minister Ram Jethmalani8217;s recent suggestion to put all new constructions out of the purview of rent control.

Jethmalani had reportedly made this suggestion at a function in Chennai recently, saying the move could encourage the Non-Resident Indians NRIs and foreign firms to invest in the real estate sector I.

In a statement issued here today, Society for Fair Laws and Justice, that represents the Capital8217;s landlords, said the law should not discriminate between old and new constructions and all controlled and uncontrolled premises should be given the market rent.

The house-owners demanded that all disputes pending before various rent tribunals should be settled within six months, failing which, the affected parties should have the right to report to higher authorities against the same.
