
KHARAR, Sept 2: The mortal remains of 31-year-old Lance Naik Ranjodh Singh of 7 Dogra Regiment were consigned to flames at his native village Tiyur, under Kharar sub-division, this evening, with full military honours.
About 5,000 persons bid a tearful farewell to the brave soldier who laid down his life while foiling attempts by Pakistani troops to capture tactically important protective patrol positions along the Line of Control LoC in Jammu and Kashmir on August 31.
It was a heart-rending scene at the crematorium when the pyre was lit by the martyr8217;s seven-year-old son Abhishek while family members, relatives and friends of the deceased wept inconsolably. Lance Naik Ranjodh Singh is survived by his widow, two sons, old parents, a younger brother and one older sister.
Recounting the attack on the fateful night of August 31, Subedar Jagdish Ram said that Lance Naik Ranjodh Singh killed two enemy soldiers before making the supreme sacrifice. Wreaths were laid on the body by Roopnagar Deputy Commissioner Kulbir Singh Sidhu, Senior Superintendent of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, Deputy Director, Punjab Department of Sainik Welfare, Major Pishora Singh, the SDM, Deputy Superintendent of Police and village sarpanch M.S. Hundal. Earlier, Morinda MLA Ravi Inder Singh had visited the bereaved family and consoled the untimely death of the brave soldier.
