NAGPUR, Feb 22: The Khadi and Village Industries Commission KVIC would soon launch a scheme for the benefit of tribals in Melghat pocket in Amravati district, announced KVIC chairman Mahesh Sharma.

Sharma was addressing a meeting after inaugurating the Nagpur area office. District Guardian Minister Nitin Gadkari presided over the function.

The KVIC chairman explained the significance of opening a separate office for Nagpur area. It will help in publicising the KVIC schemes for providing employment to people in rural areas. It will also ensure proper implementation of about 50 different types of village industries schemes in the region with the assistance of non-government voluntary organisations and financial institutions, he said.

The issue of providing a better deal to Melghat tribals was also raised by Gadkari. He said the State Government is implementing a special programme to provide road network to connect remote villages in Melghat tribal pocket.
