Kshitra S M of RGUHV, Bangalore shocked favourite Shikha Tandon of Bangalore University in the women8217;s 200m freestyle to give the All India Inter University Aquatic Championship, organised by the University of Mumbai and HR College an explosive start at the Andheri Sports Complex on Tuesday.

On an eventful opening day, Kshitra pipped Shikha with an impressive timing of 2:14.85, while Shikha clocked 2:15.00 in a thrilling finish. Pooja Alva of BTU, Bangalore was third.

But Shikha, who has entered 12 events, later made amends by winning the 50m backstroke, as Amrin Malik of Andhra University finished second and Bangalore University8217;s Tejaswini V. was third in a formidable line-up.

Kshitra8217;s upset win over Shikha overshadowed the effort of Bangalore University8217;s Rohit Havaldar who clinched gold in the men8217;s 200m freestyle and 100m butterfly.

In the men8217;s waterpolo, Amravati and DAV, Indore fashioned easy wins to advance to the quarter-finals.
