Castrol Honda8217;s John Kocinski extended his World Superbike Championship lead to six points in round eight at the A-1 ring in Austria.

Kocinski finished fifth and third in the two 25-lap races at the 2.67 mile track.

Carl Fogarty won the opening race after a six-way battle which ended with Fogarty and Kawasaki Akira Yanagawas in a last lap tussle for victory as Castrol Honda8217;s Aaron Slight came an agonisingly close third.

It was Fogarty who grabbed the lead on the last lap, outbraking his Japanese rival into the second corner before powering away and opening up an advantage good enough to give him his fourth win of the year.

Castrol Honda8217;s Slight took his first rostrum finish since Monza in June with third place. Slight and teammate Kocinski were involved in a six-way battle for the entire race with American Kocinski evetually finishing fifth.

Kocinski8217;s fifth place, behind Pierfrancesco Chili, came after a poor start from his front row grid position. He held sixth place for much of the race before edging out Simon Crafar to take fifth with four laps to go.
