Kidnappers kill Nurmahal boy in Manila

A 20-year-old local boy was killed by his kidnappers in Manila a couple of days back. Sunil Kumar, alias Sonu, son of Nirmalajit Singh of Kila Mohalla, was living in Manila for the past many years along with his father. Banga Ram, his grandfather, said Sonu was kidnapped a few days back and a ransom of Rs 50 lakh was demanded from his father, a moneylender.

8220;The father of Sonu talked them into reducing the amount to Rs 12 lakh and also paid the ransom,8221; Banga Ram said. But the kidnappers murdered Sonu and threw his body in flowing water, he added.

Notably, many Punjabi boys, mostly into money-lending business in Manila, have been killed in the past many years. However, neither the Philippines government nor the Indian authorities did anything to stop the killings, besides asking deputy commissioners of Punjab to stop youths from going to Manila.
