NEW DELHI, May 12: Union Minister Madan Lal Khurana8217;s intervention to resolve the eight-day long impasse over the nurses8217; strike here failed to yield anything positive today, with the nurses rejecting the revised package and opposing Khurana8217;s mediation on the issue.
Calling it 8220;political interference8221;, the Delhi Nurses8217; Union DNU said they did not want the Parliamentary Affairs minister to mediate. They said the health minister Dalit Ezhilmalai should take the lead in settling their problems.
After a prolonged meeting late tonight, the nurses rejected the latest package8217; offered by Khurana and accused the government of diluting yesterday8217;s proposal that had brought them close to an agreement. 8220;It would not benefit even 20 per cent of the 11,000 nurses in the Capital, whereas the earlier package could have benefitted at least 90 per cent,8221; DNU general secretary G.K. Khurana told reporters outside Nirman Bhawan, where the nurses are still sitting on a relay hunger strike.
Ezhilmalai and Delhi Health Minister Harsh Vardhan, who joined today8217;s negotiations, later left for the PM8217;s office to apprise him of the latest situation.
