
With the arrest of four persons on Friday, the Lucknow police claims to have solved the murder and robbery at the residence of Om Prakash Agarwal, owner of Khunkhunji Jewellers, on November 5.
Receiving a tip-off that the miscreants involved were coming to Musabagh, police said they combed the area and arrested the accused. The stolen goods were recovered from them as well.
Those arrested have been identified as the kingpin Ram Nath, Vikas Yadav, Raju Yadav and Balendra Pratap Singh.
A massive hunt has been launched to trace the other accused 8212; identified as Harish Shankar Kashyap alias Anna and Ram Khelawan.
On the fateful night, the burglars broke into Agarwal8217;s house through a rear window. Entering the room where Agarwal and his wife Usha Rani 65 were sleeping, they began to ransack it.
The noise woke Usha and when she tried to stop them, they beat her up and fled with some jewellery and cash.
Usha Rani was taken to the CSMMU Trauma Centre, where she succumbed to her injuries. Agarwal immediately called up a senior policeman, who rushed to the site. While searching near the house, the police spotted some persons running. Asked to stop, one of them fired at the police. In retaliation, the police also fired back, killing one of them 8212; the man was identified later as Babloo alias Prem Nath.
The police said while looking into the details of Babloo, they kept a watch on the people who were in touch with him. 8220;We had sent teams to several districts including Unnao, Hardoi, Sitapur and Kanpur to trace their whereabouts,8221; said Vinay Chandra, Circle Officer, Chowk.
During interrogation, Balendra revealed to the police that last month, Babloo and Harish had decided to rob the Agarwal house. They went to Ram Nath Yadav8217;s residence and told him about their plan.
After committing the crime, they went back to Yadav8217;s residence and left the major portion of the booty there. 8220;Before leaving the house, each of them carried small portions of their share,8221; said a senior police officer.
