MUMBAI, November 15: KEM Hospital nurses called off their strike this evening after the authorities withdrew the suspension order served on five nurses.
Nearly 1000 nurses of KEM Hospital were on strike since Saturday morning following the suspension of five nurses who had refused to follow their transfer orders.
According to hospital sources, four nurses who were on duty in the neo-natal ward were told by the administration to do duty in another ward where there was a shortage of nurses. However, these nurses refused to shift to the other ward on the grounds that the infants admitted in the neo-natal ward needed more attention, sources said. Similarly, another nurse refused to move to a different ward since she was already taking care of patients in two wards. Following this, the hospital suspended all five nurses identified as Shobha Shingote, Kirti Jadhav, Priti Gawde, Raveena Tanawade and Geeta Prajapati.
However, today evening the suspended nurses submitted a letter of apology to the hospitaladministration after which the suspension was withdrawn, according to the hospital matron, Vaishali Gawde. The nurses have admitted their mistake and have agreed to work in any ward they are posted, she added.
