With the country’s top runner confirming their participation in the Mawana Sugars Indian Open marathon to be held tomorrow, the competition is bound to be keen. The race will start and finish from Guru Harkishan Public School (near India Gate). Defending champion Satya Prakash of Services will be challenged by his colleague KC Ramu (who finished second in 2006) and runners from the para-military forces.Seasoned runner Bhairav Singh Lone of the Railways is also expected to compete. The Services runners have been in the Capital for a few days and they had a training session on Saturday. In the women’s group, the field is wide open, as defending champion Leelamma Alphonso of Railways has pulled out of the competition citing personal reasons.Delhi’s Bhagwati is keen to win here, though in 2006 she wasn’t among the top three. Indresh Dhiraj from Uttar Pradesh and Reena Das, who finished second in 2006, will be seen in action.
