PUNE, Nov 3: The Khadki Cantonment Board (KCB) has resolved to rehabilitate the 12 disputed stalls which were located near Holkar bridge to four different sites suggested by the elected members.
A decision to this effect was taken by the board’s civil area committee. The stalls were removed from this site on July 18 following a decision by the station commander as they were located on A-1 land.
The board had framed a policy for the allotment of stalls at various locations in the cantonment area and accordingly 262 stalls were allotted near the Holkar Water Supply Works. However, when the site was demarcated by the Defence Estates Officer (DEO), Pune Circle, with the help of the technical staff, it was found that the stalls were located on A-1 land under the management of the Military Dairy Farm authorities. Moreover, as per the agreement executed by the board, the stall holders were required to apply for further extension of the occupancy period, three months prior to the expiry of the agreement.
However, one stall holder Deorukakar approached the lower court for grant of permanent injunction against eviction and filed a suit which was dismissed.
At the meeting held here on Monday, the civil area committee had decided to accord priority to rehabilitate the stalls on C-1 land. However, the board is actively considering the possibility of framing a policy for this purpose in the long run.
