SRINAGAR, Jan 7: Kashmir valley today remained cut off from rest of the country as heavy snowfall snapped surface and air traffic to and from the valley.

The 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu national highway, the only road linking Kashmir with rest of the country, was closed for vehicular traffic following continued snowfall all along the highway, an official spokesman said here.

No vehicle was allowed to move on the arterial road from Srinagar today in view of slippery conditions on the road because of heavy accumulation of snow from Qazigund to Jawahar tunnel. Over one inch of snow had accumulated on the road when it was still snowing, the spokesman said.

A spokesman of the airport authorities told newsmen all incoming and outgoing flights were cancelled due to poor visibility and continued snowfall in Srinagar and adjoining areas.

Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, received first snowfall of the season today.

Reports reaching here from high altitude areas of the Valley said healthresorts of Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Sonamarg, Yousmarg, Khilanmarg, Duksum continue to receive snow for the fourth consecutive day today.
