Prosecutors in Boulder, Colorado, on Monday dropped the charges against John Mark Kerr for the murder of child beauty queen JonBenet Ramsey in 1996. The DNA found at the murder site did not match that of Karr.
8226; Karr, a 41-year-old schoolteacher, had been arrested in Bangkok, Thailand, on August 16 after confessing to his fascination for JonBenet and claiming he had been with her at the time of her slaying, which he called an accident.
8226; DNA tests were conducted by the Denver Crime Laboratory on August 25 on a cheek swab taken from Karr. Boulder District Attorney Mary Lacy said on Tuesday that the test results did not put Karr at the crime scene.
8226; Karr emerged as a suspect in the 10-year case in April after exchanging emails with a University of Colorado journalism professor, Michael Tracey, in which he said he had accidently killed JonBenet during sex.
8226; Prosecutors suggested in court papers that Karr was a just a man with twisted obsession who confessed to a crime he did not commit. He still faces charges for child pornography dating to 2001.
8226; JonBenet, daughter of wealthy entrepreneur John Bennet Ramsey, was six years old at the time of her death.
She had won a number of beauty pageants. She was found strangled to death in the basement of her Boulder home on December 26, 1996. Evidence suggested she had been sexually assaulted.
