Coach Karim Bencherifa was absent as Mohun Bagan players sweated it out at the Howrah Stadium today. Officially, it was said that an indisposed Karim preferred to take rest. But if you read between the lines, there might be more to it.

After the loss against Sporting Clube de Goa in the I-League encounter recently, the Moroccan coach had said that he would give it a serious thought about continuing with his job. The club officials played down the issue, asserting that he would stay.

Assistant coach Satyajit Chatterjee today conducted the show and told the boys in no uncertain terms that it8217;s high time they pull up their socks. Mohun Bagan will play their next match against Mohammedan Sporting on October 19.

Meanwhile, after Sunil Chhetri and Surkumar Singh, now Asim Biswas and Renedy Singh have joined the list of injured players that has left East Bengal searching for options ahead of their match against Vasco Sports Club of Goa on October 18. Biswas today injured his knee during practice that will render him ineffective for at least a couple of weeks. Renedy is uncertain for the next match.

National coach Bob Houghton, who is in the city, is mulling over going to East Bengal8217;s practice tomorrow. It would be a great morale-booster for a depleted a red-and-gold brigade should he go there.
