Investigators probing the failed bomb attacks in Britain fear that Kafeel Ahmed, who received over 90 per cent burns in the attack bid on the Glasgow airport, may not survive. Even if Kafeel survives, it8217;s unlikely police will be able to question or charge him for the foreseeable future. Police have not yet formally arrested him, partly because he8217;s too severely burned and also because it would set in motion legal wheels that could potentially lead to his release within a month.

British law dictates that after being arrested a terror suspect can be held for a maximum of 28 days before being charged or released. 8220;Kafeel has not been arrested,8221; said a police official, speaking on the condition of anonymity in line with policy. 8220;It means the 28-day clock hasn8217;t started ticking.8221;

Kafeel is heavily sedated and likely to suffer organ failure, a member of his medical team said. The doctor, who demanded anonymity because he is not authorised to discuss the suspect8217;s condition, said severe burns have left the suspect vulnerable to infection.
