Former Chhattisgarh chief minister Ajit Jogi was arrested late on Sunday evening after a Raipur court issued an arrest warrant against the senior leader in the NCP leader Ram Avtar Jaggi’s murder case.

The Congress leader was arrested by a team led by Raipur Senior Superintendent of Police B S Marawi from the Dandai area of Rajnandgaon district, where Jogi was campaigning for party candidate Devvrat Singh for the forthcoming Lok Sabha bypoll.

The former chief minister has been kept under detention at the Rajnandgaon Circuit House from where he will be taken to the state capital tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Jogi’s arrest led to a tense situation in Rajnandgaon as his supporters took to the streets and shouted slogans against the police. Additional police forces have been rushed to Rajnandgaon to prevent any worsening of the situation. Jogi had been in Rajnandgaon for the past few days, heading the Congress campaign for the 29 March bypoll.
