JK Govt proposes to set up State Knowledge Commission

The Jammu and Kashmir Government has proposed to set up State Knowledge Commission SKC to transform the state into a knowledge hub, said Governor N N Vohra.

The proposed SKC, on the lines of the National Knowledge Commission, will study and recommend ways and means for achieving the highest levels of excellence in the pursuit of knowledge, Vohra said.

He was speaking at a Panel Discussion on 8216;Higher Education-Changing Dynamics8217; organised by J038;K Regional Chapter of Indian Institute of Public Administration and Academic Staff College of University of Kashmir here yesterday.

Vohra said a committee has been constituted to suggest the frame-work and terms of reference of the proposed commission and define its role.

The idea, he said, is to achieve excellence in various fields of education in keeping pace with the emerging challenges. 8220;We are preparing ground for the working of such a commission, which will be of vital importance for the future progress of the state,8221; he added.

He stressed the need for co-relating higher education with technical, vocational and school education and hoped that the participants in the Panel Discussion would deliberate on these issues in a meaningful manner.

He said that such interactive sessions helped policy planners in drawing up road maps and strategies for giving new directions to the educational scenario.
