
RANCHI, DECEMBER 13: Normal life here was hit on Monday and a number of bandh supporters rounded up during the Jharkhand bandh sponsored by Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and Vam Janwadi Jharkhand Rajya Sangharsh Samiti (VJJRSS), senior police official said.
Senior SP Amitabh Chaudhry said a group of bandh supporters were rounded up in the city for trying to obstruct movement of trucks and buses in the early morning hours.
However, the exact number of the arrested persons were yet to be known.
Official sources said vehicles, except few private ones, kept off the roads following reports of pelting of stones and smashing of wind screens by the supporters in the city outskirts.
The state bus services were cancelled for the day in view of the bandh, Bihar State Rajya Transport authorities here said.
The city wore a deserted look as shops, except pharmacies, downed their shutters and educational institutions and business establishments remained closed.
Monday’s bandh called separately by JMM and VJJRSS to press the Centre for tabling and passage of Vananchal Bill during the ongoing winter session of parliament is being supported by Congress, Samata Party and CPI.
Attendance at the Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) headquarters here was normal but loading and despatch of coal from mines areas across Bihar plateau was affected with truckers joining in the bandh, CCL authorities said.
The functioning of banks and post offices was unaffected by the bandh, official sources said.
Railway authorities here said there was no report of any disturbance in the running of trains in the region till reports last came in at 11 am.
