Defending champion Harishchandra Jeevan made a premature exit when he was shocked in the pre-quarter-finals of the 2nd Islam Gymkhana Pro Snooker Classic Tournament for markers, at the Islam Gymkhana on Tuesday.
Jeevan of Wellington Club, Mahalaxmi got off to a good start by clinching the opening frame against the unassuming M. Dehrikar of Dombivali Gymkhana.
But the favourite, who has the competition8217;s highest break of 51 to his credit, surprisingly lost his way in the next three frames though he ran Dehrikar close in the second frame. Jeevan8217;s surprise exit overshadowed Sunil Jadhav8217;s pulsating 3-2 win over Milind Divekar in an all-PJ Hindu Gymkhana contest. Jadhav, who lost a close opening frame and the fourth, snatched the deciding fifth frame by one point to surge to a thrilling 32-39, 42-10, 35-4, 21-51, 41-40 win in the closest match of the day. Bernard James of Sher-e-Panjab Gymkhana halted the run of Matunga Gymkhana8217;s Naresh Shingale.
