NEW DELHI, MARCH 10: Just when it seemed confirmed that Jeev Milkha Singh would finally play the Wills Indian Open after a gap of three years, there comes the news that an injured wrist might force him to skip the US $ 300,000 event next week. Jeev had indicated to the organisers that he might be willing to come over this time. But his pull-out from the Qatar Masters after just three holes in the first round on Thursday indicates that his wrist is indeed in a bad shape.

Jeev has tendonitis and he flew into Delhi last night to consult some doctors. Dr. Mandeep Dhillon of Chandigarh, whom Jeev consults regularly, is in Delhi attending a seminar anmd Jeev met him this afternoon.

It seems the doctor has advised rest for Jeev, but at the same time, he is getting Jeev to meet a specialist from England, who happens to be in India right now for the seminar.

Though Jeev was not willing to totally write off chances of playing the Indian Open, he said that he would wait for one more day, consult some doctors and then take a decision. Rest would be the most obvious course, but Jeev is keen on playing the tournament, because he loves the Classic Golf Resort course. But he also realises that playing with an injured wrist could have serious repercussions. Not only could it aggravate the injury, but it could also result in his swing developing some long-term faults.

As things stand now, Jeev will take his final decision on Saturday after taking the opinion of specialists.
