Two constables of Dahod police were suspended following the escape of a hardened criminal from Garbada sessions court premises.

However, in a complaint filed at the Garbada police station on Monday, the suspended constables, Ratna Khengar and Narpatsinh Mokamsinh, said that they were given the responsibility of taking three criminals from Limkheda to Garbada on a private bus going to Madhya Pradesh via Garbada.

They stated in the complaint that while the other two criminals could not escape, the convict, Manu Meda, managed to flee as there was just one handcuff to keep three criminals together.

Vipul Aggarwal, Dahod Superintendent of Police, said that Meda was brought from the Devgadh Baria sub jail to Garbada for a case hearing at a sessions court, from where he escaped.

8220;Meda has made attempts to escape from Dahod jail in the past, but was apprehended after police firing. The constables were suspended under CrPC Sections 223 and 224 for negligence in their duty,8221; Aggarwal said.

When asked if adequate arrangements were made to transfer the criminal to Gharbada, Aggarwal said if there were no adequate arrangements, the constables should have reported to their superiors. 8220;We are conducting an inquiry into the matter. Apart from the constables, whoever is responsible for the escape will also be punished,8221; he said. As per the law, such hardened criminals should be accompanied to the court by at least two constables and one beat constable.
