The Gujarat Government Sunday put IAS officer Rajendrakumar Patel under deemed suspension following his recent arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in an alleged money laundering case.

The deemed suspension order issued by the General Administration Department under the provisions of the All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1969, followed Patel’s arrest on January 2, sources said. ED is investigating a case under the PMLA in which Chandrasinh Mori, a deputy mamlatdar at the Surendranagar Collectorate, was arrested on December 23 last year. The case pertains to running a money-laundering racket and collecting bribes for changes in land-use applications in the district.

Following Mori’s arrest and the alleged recovery of Rs 67.50 lakh from his residence, the Anti-Corruption Bureau of Gujarat booked him and Patel in a separate case based on an ED complaint.

Following this, the Gujarat Government transferred Patel, putting him at the disposal of GAD without assigning him any posting.
