A symposium-cum-workshop on 8216;Recent Trends in Medical Education: Role of Information Technology8217; was held on Saturday in Dayanand Medical College Hospital under the aegis of the Medical Council of India MCI and Punjab Medical Council PMC.

The symposium was part of the Platinum Jubilee Year celebrations of MCI.

The delegates were made aware about the latest innovations in information technology relating to medical education.

Dr LS Chawla, founder Vice-Chancellor, BFUHS Baba Farid University of Health Sciences and former chairman PG committee MCI was the chief guest on the occasion.

Prem Gupta, secretary of the Managing Society felicitated Dr Chawla on behalf of the DMCH fraternity. He spoke about the various developments made in MCI over the last few years.

The workshop included lectures and group discussions by various experts. The faculty members from DMCH who delivered addresses included Dr Daljit Singh, Principal of DMCH, Dr SC Chopra, Dean Academics, Dr Gautam Ahluwalia, professor of Medicine and Dr Rajesh Arya, consultant, Cardiac Anesthesiologist. It was stressed during the workshop that with the advent of IT in medical education, it has become easy for students to understand medical concepts in an interactive manner.

The guest resource faculty included Dr Jatinder Singh, professor of Pharmacology, Government Medical College, Amritsar who spoke on 8216;Web-based tools8217; and Dr Rakesh Jindal, associate professor of Computer Programming, Punjab Agricultural University.

Dr BS Aulakh, professor of Urology 038; Transplant and Head of the Transplant Unit at DMCH along with Dr BS Shah, Medical Superintendent, DMCH and member PMC were the designated observers for the symposium-cum-workshop.
