An inquiry commission, constituted to look into the bungled case of Indian doctor Mohammed Haneef who was wrongly accused of involvement in failed UK car bombings, submitted its report to the Australian Government on Friday. 8220;The Government will carefully consider the report before responding to its recommendations,8221; Federal Attorney-General Robert McClelland was quoted as saying by the ABC.
Haneef, who was arrested in July 2007, was cleared of the terror charge and the case had collapsed due to lack of evidence. The inquiry was commissioned to report on the arrest of Haneef as well as the effectiveness of cooperation between state and federal agencies over the case, the ABC reported.
The ABC said that former Supreme Court judge John Clarke, who led the inquiry, interviewed a number of key players in the case including Australian Federal Police Commissioner Mick Kelty and former immigration minister Kevin Andrews. 8220;Clarke8217;s inquiry will help ensure that Australia8217;s security agencies work, as well as they can, both individually and collectively,8221; McClelland was quoted.
