
Noted Assamese litterateur and Delhi University Professor Indira Goswami, who has been playing the role of a mediator between the Government and the ULFA, on Tuesday met top leaders of the outfit lodged in the Guwahati Central Jail, and said she was in favour of freeing them in the interest of the peace process. 8220;I think the Government should release the leaders in order to resume the peace talks. I am going to meet Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi soon to tell him that he should release them,8221; Goswami said after spending about 30 minutes with top ULFA leaders currently in jail. She spoke to ULFA idealogue and adviser Bhimkanta Buragohain, vice-chairman Pradip Gogoi and central publicity secretary Mithinga Daimary. The ULFA has been demanding release of five leaders including the three she met today in order to facilitate direct talks with the Government. Goswami, who claimed she had not pulled out of the peace process, said she was optimistic the talks would resume and that a solution would be thrashed out sooner or later. 8220;I had some serious discussions with the ULFA leaders in jail, but I obviously cannot disclose anything to the media at this juncture,8221; she said. 8220;I must admit I was a bit depressed over the peace talks for a while. But I have not pulled out of it. I am meeting members of the PCG on Saturday to find ways to reopen the peace process,8221; she said.
