NEW DELHI, July 7: India’s first indigenous cryogenic engine is expected to be ready by 2000, the Lok Sabha was informed today. In a written reply, Minister of State for External Affairs Vasundhara Raje said the budget outlay for the cryogenic engine stage during 1998-99 is Rs 45.35 crores. During the financial year, setting up of facilities for fabrication, processing, assembly and testing of a cryogenic engine as well as its hardware are being planned.

Significant progress has been made in the last four years in design of the engine, fabrication of engine elements and establishment of facilities. Detailed design reviews of the engine, development efforts and software modelling of critical sub-systems are progressing, the minister said.
