India fell out of the medal bracket at the 14th Asian Junior Men8217;s volleyball championship in Tehran after losing to arch-rivals Pakistan 3-0 in the third-place play-off on Sunday. The Indians were outplayed 25-12, 25-11, 25-20 by the neighbours and had to settle for fourth place.

They had been beaten by China 3-1 in the semi-final on Saturday, going down 21-25, 25-18, 25-19, 25-23. In the final, China will play Iran, who beat Pakistan 3-0 in the other semi-final on Saturday.

Juniors set records

In Jamshedpur, Ankit Sharma created a new national record in the under-18 long jump event with an effort of 7.35m on the inaugural day of the 20th National Inter Zonal athletics meet on Sunday. Parveen Kumar of Haryana won gold in 400m in the under-20 category with a new meet record as he clocked 47.74s.
