The Maoists have accused Hindu extremist groups in India of supporting the Madhesi People Rights Forum, an ethnic group with which the rebels were involved in a recent deadly clash.
“Hindu extremists of India are hatching a conspiracy … by creating organisations like MPRF but the Nepalese political parties are not serious about this,” CPN-Maoist central committee member Dev Gurung said during an interaction programme here yesterday.
His remarks came three days after 29 Maoist cadres were killed in a violent clash with the Madhesi People’s Rights Forum (MPRF) in Gaur.
Maoists have claimed that Hindu extremists and pro-Palace elements were behind the shootout in the Terai town. Gurung also said that several criminal activities were taking place in Terai due to the open border.
In a separate development, Madhesi Students’ Front (MSF), a student wing of the MPRF, has announced a split from the Forum accusing it of being a royalist organisation.
“We have decided to break our ties with the Madhesi People’s Right Forum, which was running as per the guidance of the Palace,” the front said in a statement.
The decision to sever ties with the Forum was made during a two-day meeting of the Madhesi Students Front central committee at Rajbiraj in Saptarai district on Friday. Front chairman Keshav Kumar Jha slammed the forum’s Chairman Upendra Yadav for conspiring against the Constituent Assembly (CA) elections by “joining hands” with royalists and Hindu extremists.
It accused Yadav of engaging in games to “protect the king” in the name of religion and vandalising statues of litterateurs and democratic leaders under the palace’s directions during the Madhesi movement. It also charged the Forum with engaging in manslaughters and unnecessary clashes with the Maoists instead of fighting for the cause of the Madhesi people.
