MUMBAI: Juan Carlos Ferrero, currently running eleventh in the ATP Tour champion8217;s race with 322 points, has confirmed his participation in the Gold Flake Open to be played from January 1 to 7, 2001 at the Chinnai.Ferrero is the third international player to confirm participation in this event apart from Magnus Norman and Cedric Pioline.

Randhawa maintains lead

VIJAYAWADA: After winning the under-14 chess title at Spain recently, Koneru Humpi sets her eyes on World Championship and Women Grand Master WGM norm.

8220;My aim is to win Open World chess championship and Women Grand Master WGM norm8221;, Humpy said while speaking at a felicitation function here on Monday. 8220;I had won one WGM norm from Asian Junior championship and need two more to fulfil the norm8221;, the eighth standard student in Chalapati Residential School at Guntur, said. Humpy8217;s Elo-rating would cross 2300 mark from the present 2286 in January, which would enable her to get the WGM norm.
