MUMBAI, July 21: India has ranked seventh at the 39th International Mathematical Olympiad IMO held at Taipei, Taiwan, recently. This is India8217;s best ever rating in a Maths Olympiad, the earlier one being 14.

Of the six students who were part of the Indian team, Abhinav Kumar Jamshedpur, Chetan Balwe Pune, and N V Tejaswi Bangalore have received gold medals, while Hariharan Narayanan Mumbai, Rishi Raj Ranchi and Soham Mazumdar Ranchi have bagged silver.

The team was led by Dr S A Shirali Rishi Valley School and Dr C S Yogananda IISc, Bangalore.

The director of HBCSE, Arvind Kumar, further stated: 8220;With the outstanding performance in mathematics and a reasonably good maiden performance in physics 10th place, however, the time is ripe for initiating similar programmes in chemistry and biology and starting a vibrant and comprehensive Olympiad movement in the country.8221;
