MUMBAI: The national cricket selection committee will meet in Calcutta on June 28 to pick about 25 probables for the four-nation Asia Cup scheduled at Colombo from July 14 to 26. Chairman Ramakant Desai said the captain and the final team will be selected after a short camp of ten days at Bangalore.
India are expected to stay back to play two Tests and three one dayers.
Wimbledon on DD
NEW DELHI: Doordarshan will telecast live the Wimbledon 1997 singles matches from the quarterfinals onwards from July 1. The All India Radio will also broadcast on the national hook-up a 15 minutes daily voice cast on Wimbledon tennis championship by Naresh Kumar and Atul Premnarayan in English from 0730 hrs to 0745 hrs.
The matches will be available in DD I from 1828 hrs to 1900 hrs, in DD II from 1859 hrs-1930 hrs, again in DD I from 1929 hrs-2030 hrs, in DD II from 2029 hrs to 2130 hrs, in DDI 2129 hrs to 2230, and in DDII from 2229 hrs to till the end of the match.
UP officials quit
LUCKNOW: In a significant move, the president and vice-president of the Uttar Pradesh Badminton Association (UPBA) resigned from their respective posts citing personal reasons. President Prabhat Chaturvedi and K K Srivastava sent their resignation.
Meanwhile, the demands of Ahmed’s resignation from BAI presidentship got strident with former player Meena Shah joining the brigade calling for his ouster. She urged ahmed to step down, saying the ageing BAI president was not in a position to take care of the affairs of the association.

BANGALORE: Representatives of the breakaway faction — Badminton Association of Bengal (BAB) — of the West Bengal Badminton Association (WBBA) met Prakash Padukone and other officials of the Indian Badminton Confederation (IBC), seeking affiliation.
