
Nansita, Khoni win three bronze
NEW DELHI: Nansita Devi and Khoni Devi won three bronze medals each to take Indian medal tally to 17 4 silver, 13 bronze in the ongoing Asian Weightlifting Championship at Wu Han China.
In the 63 kg category Nansita won bronze in jerk, snatch and with overall total. She lifted 80 kgs for snatch and 105 kgs for jerk to total 185 kg for three medals. In the junior women section, Khoni Devi also bagged three bronze medals in 63 kg event. Khoni, like Nansita Devi also totalled identical 185 kg, with 80 kg in snatch and 105 kg in jerk.
Bula twice good over English Channel
LONDON: Bula Choudhary became the first Asian swimmer to swim the English Channel twice on Thursday. The 29-year-old, who crossed the Channel for the first time in 1989, completed the 26-mile stretch between Shakespeare beach in England and Cape Gris Nez in France in 13 hours, 15 minutes. She, however, had to shelve her plan to swim both ways due to inclement weather, her manager NishitGanguly said.
S Africa to play three Tests, five ODIs
MUMBAI: The Cricket Board has persuaded its South African counterparts to agree to play five limited overs internationals in addition to the Test series against India during their forthcoming tour scheduled for February-March 2000. 8220;The United Cricket Board of South Africa has agreed to play two Tests and five One-Day Internationals during their tour instead of only three-Tests, Board8217;s executive secretary Sharad Diwadkar said.
