Hockey eves8217; foreign coach arrival delayed
New Delhi: The Indian Women8217;s Hockey Federation8217;s plans to get a physical trainer for the National team prior to the New Zealand Test series suffered a setback as the American trainer, Huber Herbert, failed to arrive here today. Herbert, who had been hired a fortnight back to work on the fitness of the players, was supposed to join the training camp at Patiala tomorrow. However, he informed the IWHF that he would not be available 8220;for the time being8221; as his wife has been diagnosed with cancer.
Asian Satellite
Hyderabad: The Asian Satellite international badminton will be held here at the Lal Bahadur Indoor Stadium from December 4-7. Players from China, Malaysia, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Singapore, Australia, Denmark and Hongkong are expected to take part in this four-day meet, which will also be one of the qualifying tournaments for the Melbourne Olympics. Efforts are being made to invite a few Indonesianplayers too.
Sukhvinder coach
CALCUTTA: The All-India Football Federation AIFF today appointed Sukhvinder Singh as coach of the National squad for the forthcoming SAAF Games and Asia Cup to be played at Kathmandu and Abu Dhabi respectively. A Sreedharan will be the assistant coach and Brahmanand Salgaocar the goalkeeping coach.
India have decided in principle to appoint celebrated French coach Franz Barriquand to train the Indian football team. Uzbekistan coach Rustom Akramov would take charge within a month as Director of Coaching, Youth Development.
