DD to telecast live 11 World Cup matches

NEW DELHI: Doordarshan will telecast live eleven matches of the forthcoming cricket World Cup including the five first phase matches of India, three Super Six matches involving India, the semi-finals and the final, the Lok Sabha was informed today.

Naqvi said World Cup telecast rights were with ESPN and Doordarshan had secured the rights from them to telecast daily highlights of matches over its network.

Doordarshan has already obtained TV rights for Australian Open, French Open, Sharjah cricket triangular series, Uefa League Championship and Davis Cup.

Federation Cup Kabaddi at Mangalore

MUMBAI: The Dakshina Kannada District Kabaddi Association (DKDKA) would organise the 18th Federation Cup Kabaddi tournament at the Nehru Maidan in Mangalore from April 22 to 25.

Eight men’s and an equal number of women’s teams, including Indian Railways and Maharashtra teams, have qualified for the Federation Cup during 45th National Kabaddi Championship recently, a statement from tournament director, Jaya Shetty, said here today.

Six other men’s teams, apart from Railways and Maharashtra, are Banks Sports Board (BSB), Haryana, Karnataka, Hyderabad, Services and Punjab while the other six teams in the women’s section are West Bengal, Haryana, Orissa, Uttar Pradesh, Hyderabad and Vidarbha, the statement added.

Mahindras team’s gesture to Olympian

HYDERABAD: The entire Mahindra and Mahindra football team from Mumbai presented Rs 5000 to Olympian Noor Mohammad, who has been ailing for quite some time.

In a message, Noor Mohammad conveyed his heartfelt thanks to the members of the Mahindra team for their kind gesture and prayed for the success of the team.

The football players also requested the Andhra Pradesh government to provide free medical aid to the ailing Noor Mohammed, G Laiq, M Azam and Yousuf Khan, as a recognition of their contribution to the game.
