MUMBAI: The newly-appointed national cricket selection committee, with Ajit Wadekar as its chairman, would commence its job by picking the Rest of India team here on September 26 for the domestic-season opening Irani Cup tie against Ranji champions Karnataka at Bangalore from October 1-5.

Team departs

MUMBAI: The 14-member Indian cricket team led by Mohammad Azharuddin left here early today for Zimbabwe to play three One-Day Internationals and a one-off Test against the hosts.

The squad, which is to play the three One-Day Internationals on September 26, 27 both Bulawayo and 30 Harare would round-up the tour with the lone Test from October 7 to 11.

The team would play a three-day match against the Board President XI in between the one-dayers and the Test, also at Harare.
